Went for a walk yesterday with my nine-months-pregnant wife (per doctor's orders) and found this coffee machine:
Is it just me, or does the machine look like it should be dispensing Metamucil?

Every once in a while, in the midst of the most horrid, unbearably lame sketch comedy, there appears a musical guest that makes the ghost of Paul Westerberg's solo career stir in its bargain bin cemetery.
So, even if the show is complete shit, at least somebody behind the scenes has decent taste in music. Or maybe they just got lucky?

We missed the eclipse, what with us being in the wrong hemisphere and all, but Wired has some pretty cool pictures of the lunar event here.
Another space show we missed was captured on video:
Now that's the kind of work I like to see done with my tax dollars.

Korean pop superstars, Big Bang, were in town this afternoon for a handshake session with their Mokpo fans. Rachel sent me down to Skool, camera in hand, to document what we assumed would be madness. The reality was something less than Beatlemania, but greater than the release of, say, the second Harry Potter book. The kids were all behaving well: there were no tears, no screams, no hysteria. Many of the girls carried roses, presumably to give to their favorite member of the five boy boy-band. (Tae Yang may be the cute one, but Seung-ri is the funny one!)
Though the whole scene was kind of silly, I have to admit that one frigid NYC morning waited I for five hours to get INXS tickets.
Oh, and another time I waited for six hours to get Metallica/Guns'n'Roses tickets. (Faith No More opened!)
BTW: Read about the Heat Death of the Universe here- so you know just how very clever this post's title is.

This is what I saw from the roof, this morning, while walking the dog:
We've seen the "clown" costumes before, but still have no idea what the hell they're all about. If anyone can explain the cultural significance of this display, please- please- leave a comment.

Mokpo is in the middle of the rainy season and we are pretty excited when the sun comes out- even if for only a few minutes. Man, the seasonal depression isn't supposed to hit until Winter.
To cheer me up- and maybe help you through your own Summer doldrums- here is a cat video that amuses the hell out of me every time.

BTW: The rest of the Seoul pictures were boring, so I decided to renege on my promise to post more of them. Too bad, eh?

Well, we survived the tandem bikes. Rachel is still working on the video from our adventure, but here's the video of what happened after the bikes were returned to the rental place.

It was a cloudy evening, but we decided to walk along the water at Peace Park anyway. Good thing, too, or we might have missed the big raffle. Here's some video:
A little later we walked down to Hadang for pizza and, while we were eating, were treated to a Korean version of Jerry Springer. A pair of shame-faced teen girls were standing in front of a clothing store next to the pizza parlor. Several adults surrounded them, talking into cell phones and looking nervous, angry or amused. Then, out of the blue, one of the adults- a woman in her 40's- produced a baseball bat and stepped menacingly toward the teens. The other adults wrestled the bat from her, while I watched and Rachel cursed her opposite-facing seat. There then ensued a long stand-off where the teens were crying, the adults looked unhappy and we continued eating. Finally, the Springer-scene broke up just as we finished the pizza, but we still had no clue what the hell it was all about.
***Bonus Footage: Here are some kids playing in the fountain in Hadang.***

Not much to report this week, so here's a video that is really, really amusing.
Edit: Had to remove the video because it was annoying. (Damn auto-play...) You can still watch it here.
BTW: I have added a section on the sidebar called News, Comics, & Music. It's where you'll see links to my Shared Items on Google Reader. Just some stories, webcomics, and such that I find interesting. You may enjoy them. Or not. Whatever.
